Death and Taxes

So I finished my taxes last night. Pretty simple. I am in the financial services industry so plugging in smaller numbers is nice and easy. I am a firm believer in TurboTax.

They make it so easy now, I don't know how you could possibly mess up. Then it made me think a little bit about recent headlines. So I did a little searching and found this incredibly useful program:
Why didn't people like Daschle, Richardson and Geithner use this? It clearly states in it's promotional ad:

We guarantee you'll avoid embarrassing past tax related issues while you're being vetted, and even during your nomination hearings. Plus, we'll help you correctly claim exemptions for:
  • Political donations
  • Failure to pay back taxes while working for the International Monetary Fund or other financial organizations
  • Shady state contracts
  • Misunderstanding standard tax laws you may have helped enforce

Seems like there would have been fewer problems, and it only costs $29.95. Seems like a small price to pay to avoid killing your political career.

Hilarious...or really really sad...depending on how you look at it.

I have been so completely disgusted with politicians. I don't want to become too disenchanted, but they are making it hard.

I used Turbo Tax for the first 11 years of our marriage and always made sure I had the taxes done by the end of Feb. I miss that...seriously. Our taxes are way too complicated now and so we have some guy do it...it makes me sad. Say HI to good ol' turbo for me. Life was easier then.

I think I feel a post coming on...

Perfect timing after yesterday's news. What does it mean when you can't even find enough honest people in the country to staff the cabinet, hmmm?
