Mr. & Mrs. Ross Go to Washington

What an incredible city. Do you know I had forgotten just how amazing our country is. Sitting out here, amid all this muddy water, all the things to read about, all the things you hear about. You can get to think that we are pretty crummy. I think we all could use a good dose of DC. I prescribe 2 tablets and a brisk walk, preferably around the mall. I'm not talking about the route from Nordstrom to The Gap. The Real Mall. So much amazing architecture. So must history. So much to be thankful for.

Here are my Top Ten things I love about Washington D.C.

10. Touring the Capital from 11:30 PM to 1:30 AM with Congressman Rob Bishop. (I used this picture because it was the only one where he doesn't look totally asleep. Rob Bishop on the right, on the left is Dave Parkinson - President of the Board of Directors of the Utah Chapter of the CF Foundation, and an incredibly good dancer)

9. On said tour seeing secret places like the prayer room: and the Pine Coffin Stand made for Pres. Lincoln when he was laying in state in the capitol building:

8. Staying a total of 8 hours in one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever seen since we got there at 2:30 in the morning and left at 10:30.

7. Feeling the power of a grateful nation, at last:

6. Seeing real live Tom Clancy types on the roof of the White House:

5. Having a conversation with my favorite president:

4. Remembering what it's like to be small:

3. Dunn Loring to Metro Center:

2. Canceling our reservations at the "Hairy Hotel", and finding a Four Star hotel a block away on Hotwire.com which just happened to be The Capitol Hilton: That's right, for just $80.

1. Being in our Nation's Capitol with my first Lady:

So there you have it. Yes, we could all use a good dose of DC. Remember who we are, and what we stand for. Remember that somewhere, far away, there are things to remind us of what this is really all about. Hopefully we wont have to look that far.

I'm SO GLAD you had such a great time. Your making me realize that it's been much too long since I've been to Capitol hill. God bless America!!
